Forest Chapel Rushbearing
Sunday, 14th August at 3 p.m. Preacher – Mrs. Beryl Stew
This service carries on a tradition going back many
hundreds of years, when rushes were laid on the floor for people to sit on.
Rushbearing was the time when the old rushes were thrown away and new ones
were cut and brought in. It was a time for the congregation to renew
their lives and their faith, but as years went by the religious significance
became overshadowed by festivities, and most churches began to hold Rose
Queen fetes and Village Fairs on Saturdays. Forest Chapel has kept a
simple Sunday service with the church beautifully decorated with rushes and
flowers. Part of the service is held outside and everyone is welcome to
come. For further information please click on the following link.
